CAT 2014: Eligibility Criteria, Question Pattern & Test Duration, Syllabus and notification.


CAT 2013 Written Results have been declared by IIM Indore (Organizing Institute ) on 14 January 2014 and also GD-PI Rounds have been concluded by end of March 2014. All IIMs have published their final list for PGP-2014-16 and new session will start from June 2014. Now, CAT Aspirants for CAT 2014 are egarely waiting for notification for CAT 2014 Examination. Notification for CAT 2014 will be released in next 1-2 months. We are highlighting here following Important factors regarding CAT 2014 based on previous year notification:-

CAT 2014: Eligibility Criteria 

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA) (It may also referred to as Persons with Disability (PWD) category)], awarded by any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in the bachelor’s degree would be calculated based on the practice followed by the university/institution from where the candidate has obtained the degree. In case the candidates are awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of grades/CGPA to percentage of marks would be based on the procedure certified by the university/ institution from where they have obtained the bachelor’s degree. In case the university/ institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing the candidate’s CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result with 100. Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply. If selected, such candidates will be allowed to join the programme provisionally, only if he/she submits a certificate latest by June 30, 2015 from the Principal/Registrar of his/her College/Institute (issued on or before June 30, 2015) stating that the candidate has completed all the requirements for obtaining the bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification on the date of the issue of the certificate.

CAT 2014: Question Paper Pattern & Time Duration 

The CAT 2013 had only two sections. The first section is Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation; the second section is Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. These two sections will be implemented sequentially with separate time limits. The examination will be 140 minutes. Candidates will have 70 minutes to answer 30 questions within each section which will have an on-screen countdown timer. Within the 70 min provided for the section, candidates can review the answers. Once the time ends for the first section, they will move to the second section and will no longer be able to go back.

Section-01: Subject:- Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation, Time Duration:- 70 Minutes, No. of Questions:- 30 Questions.

Section-02: Subject:- Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning, Time Duration:- 70 Minutes, No. of Questions:- 30 Questions

CAT 2014: Admission Process
The Process of Admission will Include Written ability Test + GD + PI and IIMs can also consider previous academic performance of candidates. CAT 2014 will have important factor for screening of candidates for GD-PI stage and also for final Selection. IIMs can also consider previous work-experience of candidates in screening for stages.

CAT 2014: Offered Courses
IIMs generally offer two years Post graduate program in management and Post graduate program in ABM. They also offer Executive Programs for working professionals and fellow-ship program for research scholars.
